INSPECTIONS
The NACE Coating Inspector Program (CIP) has evolved into the AMPP Coatings Inspector Program (Association for Materials Protection and Performance), which sets the standard for coating inspection globally. It offers three levels of certification—CIP Level 1, Level 2, and Senior Inspector (Level 3)—focused on surface preparation, coating application, and inspection techniques.
Third-party NACE (Now AMPP) coating inspectors provide independent quality control for industrial & commercial projects, ensuring surface preparation and coating application meets specification.
At PCS our Association of Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) certified coating inspectors performs detailed assessments of surface preparation, coating application, and finished film quality to ensure compliance with industry standards and protect your investments. ASSET INTEGRITY SURVEY
The importance of regular monitoring cannot be underestimated in corrosion control. Periodic evaluations, or corrosion surveys are crucial to protecting your assets. Coated surfaces need to be monitored to identify early signs of corrosion.
Here’s a quick look at what corrosion surveys entail and why they are important to conduct:
Location of areas showing early or advanced corrosion. Severity of the corrosion.
Allows for planned maintenance to stop or slow the rate of corrosion depending on the scenario and desired outcome.
A well-planned maintenance program is more cost effective than doing nothing and allowing corrosion to become more severe over time.
SELECTION
Selecting the right protective coating requires evaluating environmental factors (UV protection, moisture, chemicals), substrate material, and performance needs (corrosion, abrasion, temperature resistance). Key options include epoxy (high adhesion barrier coating), polyurethane (UV resistance), zinc-rich (cathodic protection), ceramic (high heat), and polyaspartic or polyurea (rapid curing).
AS/NZS 2312 is a crucial Australian/New Zealand standard guiding the protection of structural steel against atmospheric corrosion. This standard in conjunction with leading protective coating manufacturers can be used to provide the best suited protective coating system as per requirements. PCS can assist or customers in specifying the most appropriate coating systems depending on their requirements.
QUALITY CONTROL
Quality control (QC) in the protective coatings industry ensures that coatings are applied according to project specifications and standards, preventing premature failure. It involves inspections of surface preparation, environmental conditions, application, and cured film properties. Key steps include measuring surface profile and surface cleanliness, monitoring ambient conditions (humidity, dew point, temperature), verifying dry film thickness (DFT). Additional testing may be required including adhesion testing and continuity testing (Spark/Holiday Testing).
